8 policemen including OC pay the price for sleeping while guarding a temple, stealing bullets

30 rounds of bullets were stolen from the Sri Sri Mahadev Ashram and Kali Mandir of Nimtala in Badda, the capital, along with the belongings of the police and Ansar members. The incident took place early Tuesday (September 30) when they were sleeping. Later, the 30 rounds of bullets were recovered. In this incident, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda Police Station Md. Saiful Islam has been withdrawn and seven people, including an SI and an ASI, have been temporarily suspended.

This information was obtained from police sources in the DMP and Gulshan division.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gulshan division of DMP Md. Tarek Mahmud told Fast Bangla that SI Mobashvir, an ASI and five constables of Badda Police Station have been temporarily suspended for negligence in their duties in the case of bullet theft. The OC of Badda Police Station has been withdrawn in the same incident.

According to sources from Gulshan Division Police and DMP Headquarters, arrangements were made to stay on the second floor of an under-construction building within the temple boundary for police members on duty at Sri Sri Mahadev Ashram and Kali Mandir in Nimtala, Badda. Four police members and three Ansar members were sleeping there between 4:30 am and 5:30 am when four bags, two wallets and three mobile phones were stolen from their side.

One of the bags contained 30 rounds of shotgun bullets. Later, the bags were recovered from a wasteland adjacent to the mandap around 10 am. The stolen bullets were recovered intact and the three were taken to the police station for questioning.

Badda Police Station SI Mobashvir, one ASI and five constables were suspended for negligence of duty in this incident. In addition, Badda Police Station OC Md. Saiful Islam has been withdrawn.
